Abstract
Literature exhibits beauty at times when it has message and meaning for its readers. This becomes highly evident in heritage works and in traditional prose. Thus, sourcing messages or meaning in literature illustrates to the readers how social reality occurs in our society through the perspective of writers or poets whose work is being examined.
This research attempts to expose semiotic meaning in “Menikmati Akhir Pekan” poetry by M. Aan Mansyur, and examines this poetry by drawing from work by Roland Barthes. The study aims to discuss that literature, as constituting a social system, becomes a medium for the poet in observing social reality. Therefore, this research aims to expose meaning delivered by M. Aan Mansyur through his poetry “Menikmati Akhir Pekan”. The research also attempts to describe social reality that emerges through the point of view of M. Aan Mansyur as poet.
